The Four Voices

Every day, countless sounds compete for our attention — opinions, noise, distractions, and demands. But beneath all of that, if we listen carefully, there are four voices that speak to us with eternal significance. These voices call us toward God’s mission, God’s heart, and God’s purpose. Today, let’s take a closer look at these four voices and what they mean for our walk with Christ.

1. The Voice From Above

When Jesus stepped into the Jordan River to be baptized, the heavens opened. God the Father Himself spoke.

Matthew 3:17 – “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

The Father sent His Son because of His deep love for the lost. We know the verse by heart — John 3:16 reminds us how serious He is about saving humanity. He didn’t send an angel, or a prophet, or a message. He sent His Son.

Jesus’ Voice

After His resurrection, Jesus spoke with the same authority as the Father.

Matthew 28:18–20 – “All authority…Go, therefore, and make disciples… I am with you always.”

Jesus continues the Father’s mission: Reach the lost. Their voices are one — calling us to carry the gospel to every nation, every neighborhood, every person.

If you want to know where the lost are, just look around. They’re not hidden. God is saying, “Go tell them. I will save them — you simply go.”

2. The Voice From Below

In Luke 16, Jesus gives us a sobering glimpse of eternity. Luke 16:24–28 reveals the cries of the rich man in torment: “I am in agony…send him to my father’s house…”

There was no second chance. His eternity was sealed. And his voice cries out with urgency: “I request of you… send him…he may warn them, so that they will not come to this place of torment.”

If we could hear the voices of those in hell today, it would shake us. Their message would be clear — “Go. Tell them about Jesus before it’s too late.”

God says, “Go and teach them. You speak — I will bring the fruit.”

3. The Voice From Out There

Some people have responded to God’s call and stepped onto the mission field. Their voices reach out for help — like in Paul’s Macedonian vision.

Acts 16:9 – “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

God designed His church to work as one united body. 1 Corinthians 12:12–14, 22–27 teaches that every member is important. We need each other. When one part of the body needs help, the rest should rise to the occasion.

Not everyone can go. But everyone can help. If you cannot go, you can give. If you cannot give, you can pray. If you cannot pray long, pray short. But no believer is called to do nothing.

My own family has experienced this. God sustained us during our time in abroad. We left almost everything behind. Now we’re trusting God as we continue ministry. If God leads you to help, your support means more than you know. But whether with us or others, let the voice from out there move you to action.

4. The Voice From Within

In Luke 15, the prodigal son hits rock bottom. Luke 15:17 – “But when he came to his senses…”

People can have everything and still feel empty. Many try to fill the void with pleasure, money, or success — but the voice inside keeps asking: “Is this all there is? What is the purpose of my life?”

This is the voice of the human heart… and also the gentle tug of the Holy Spirit. John 16:7–15 tells us the Spirit convicts, guides, reveals truth, and points us to Jesus. His voice calls each person to repentance and calls each believer to holiness.

Are you hearing that inward voice? Have you responded? If not, respond today. Open your heart to Jesus, ask Him to forgive your sins, and let the Holy Spirit fill you and guide you.

Conclusion

If you are in Christ, the Spirit lives in you. And with that privilege comes responsibility. You cannot save the lost — but you can tell them about the One who can.

Romans 10:14–15 asks us plainly: “How are they to hear without a preacher? … HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!”

The Father is serious about the lost. Jesus died for them. The Spirit calls them. People in hell cry out for someone to warn them. Believers around the world ask for help. Your own heart knows the truth. So… where is your heart today? What occupies your time, your passion, your priorities?

Jesus is saying: “I died for them — now go. Preach. Teach. Sow the seed. I am with you always.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking to us through these four voices. Give us ears to hear Your call, courage to obey, and compassion for the lost. Stir our hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit. Help us to go, to give, to pray, and to serve wherever You lead. Shape our lives so they reflect Your love and Your mission. Use us as vessels of Your truth and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
