As we continue our journey of understanding Jesus more deeply, we come to a foundational and powerful truth—Jesus’ eternal position. He is not just a historical figure or a moral teacher; Jesus is the exalted Son of God, seated at the right hand of the Father, reigning forever as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
This position is not symbolic or ceremonial. It is a declaration of divine authority, co-equality with God the Father, and absolute sovereignty over all creation.
Seated at the Right Hand of the Father
Scripture makes it clear that Jesus, after His resurrection, was exalted to the highest place of honor. Mark 16:19, Ephesians 1:20, and 1 Peter 3:22 confirm that He is now seated at the right hand of the Father. This position reflects His completed work, supreme authority, and ongoing intercession for believers (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25). His position assures us that our faith rests in a living, reigning Savior who is fully involved in the life of His people.
King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Revelation 17:14 proclaims Jesus as “Lord of lords and King of kings.” This isn’t a title to admire from a distance—it is a divine reality that demands a personal response. Jesus is the supreme authority, reigning above all human governments, powers, and rulers.
His lordship is not limited to a future kingdom; it is active now. His dominion extends over the spiritual and physical realms alike. He is the final authority to whom every other power must ultimately bow.
This title serves as a strong reminder: no matter what power structures exist in our world, Jesus reigns above them all. Our allegiance belongs to Him first.
Every Knee Will Bow
In Philippians 2:9-11, Paul provides a sobering and powerful truth, “For this reason also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW… and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
This universal confession will happen—whether willingly in this life or by force in the next. The question is not if a person will bow to Jesus, but when and how.
Will you confess Jesus as Lord now, while there is still time to receive His grace? Or will you face Him at the judgment, when there is no longer an opportunity for redemption? Hebrews 9:27 warns us that judgment follows death. Our response to Jesus now determines our eternal destiny.
Application
Understanding Jesus’ eternal position is not just a theological fact—it’s a call to action. Here are five ways we can respond:
- Personal Acknowledgment and Faith: Acknowledge Jesus as Lord of your life. This isn’t about mere words—it’s about submission, surrender, and relationship. Embrace Him as your Savior and King, and let that reality shape every part of who you are.
- Maintain an Eternal Perspective: Keep your eyes fixed on eternity. Jesus is coming back, and His kingdom is forever. Let this truth influence how you live today, knowing that everything done in His name has eternal significance.
- Live From Victory: Don’t live in defeat or fear. Jesus has already won the victory, and as believers, we share in that triumph. Let this truth fuel your confidence, faith, and courage in all circumstances.
- Align With God’s Purposes: Jesus is Lord not only of our Sunday mornings but of every area of life—our work, relationships, priorities, and character. Align your decisions with the values of His kingdom.
- Proclaim the Gospel: Share the good news with others. Jesus’ lordship is good news because He is a righteous, loving, and merciful King. Help others see the urgency and joy of knowing Him.
Jesus’ eternal position should stir reverence, faith, and obedience in our hearts. He is not a distant ruler—He is the risen, reigning King who loves us and calls us into His kingdom. Whether now or later, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. The question is: will you do so willingly and joyfully today?
Let His eternal position shape your daily walk, inspire your worship, and give you boldness to live fully for Him.
