When you hear the term “lord,” what comes to mind? Authority? Power? In the Christian faith, “Lord” signifies much more: a deep, transformative relationship with Jesus Christ. Accepting Him as Lord means surrendering every aspect of our lives to His authority, embracing His teachings, and striving to follow His example daily.
What Does It Mean for Jesus to Be Lord?
God’s desire for humanity is personal and intimate, rooted in His love for us as His creation. Made in His image, we are invited into His eternal kingdom. But this invitation calls for a response—surrendering to the lordship of Jesus Christ.
Acknowledging Jesus as Lord is more than professing faith; it’s a lifestyle. As the Bible says, “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26). It’s a daily decision to live out our salvation with reverence (Philippians 2:12), allowing Jesus to guide our thoughts, actions, and choices.
Consider this analogy: A marriage without shared love and commitment is lifeless. Similarly, faith that acknowledges Jesus as Savior but not as Lord lacks true relationship. Surrendering to His lordship brings our faith to life and aligns us with God’s eternal purpose.
The Power of Surrender
When we submit to Jesus as Lord, the Holy Spirit empowers us. Acts 1:8 promises, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.” This power equips us to live boldly for Christ, share His message, and experience personal revival.
Revival starts within us. When we fully surrender, our lives are transformed, and our passion for God grows.
