Last time, we explored the importance of honoring widows within our families and communities. Today, we turn our attention to restoring God’s original design for marriage and family. Let’s delve into how we can realign our lives with God’s perfect plan.
In the beginning, God created a perfect design for marriage and family. Genesis 1:28 says, “God blessed them; and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'” God’s original plan was for families to flourish in love, righteousness, and harmony, raising godly children who would continue this cycle for generations to come. However, sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, disrupting God’s design and bringing destruction into the family structure.
The fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden marked the beginning of sin’s destructive power on God’s perfect creation. Since then, sin and death have been passed down from generation to generation. The family unit, which was meant to be a source of blessing, became a place where sin could cause pain, conflict, and separation. Yet, God’s desire for families to reflect His love and righteousness has never changed.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:22, “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.” While sin and death came through Adam, redemption and life come through Christ. Although we cannot escape the reality of sin while we are on earth, through Jesus Christ, we can begin the process of restoring what was lost.
To restore God’s design for our families, we must begin by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. This involves confessing and repenting of our sins, embracing His forgiveness, and living a life devoted to Him. As we submit to the authority and lordship of Jesus, He provides for us and protects us, just as a good shepherd cares for his flock.
It’s time to return to the basics and rebuild our families on the foundation that God originally intended. This means making Christ the center of our homes and living according to His teachings. In 2 Timothy 3:14–15, Paul encourages Timothy to “continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
Parents, it is our responsibility to teach our children God’s Word, just as Timothy was taught by his family. As we instill biblical principles in our children, we break the cycle of sin and set a new path for righteousness and godly living. This process of restoration begins with each one of us choosing to live by God’s design and teaching our families to do the same.
Now is the time to reset our foundation and restore our families to God’s original design. It is time to choose to make Christ the center of our homes and commit to living according to His Word. As we do so, we will see God’s blessings flow through our families, and we will begin to fulfill the purpose He has for us.
Let’s pray together that God would give us the strength and wisdom to restore our families according to His perfect plan. May we be diligent in teaching our children and future generations the ways of the Lord, and may we live lives that are pleasing to Him.
Restoring God’s design for marriage and family requires intentional effort and a commitment to follow Christ’s example. As we seek to rebuild our homes on the foundation of God’s Word, let us remember that through Jesus, all things are made new. Let us move forward with hope, trusting that God will guide us as we strive to create families that honor Him and reflect His love to the world.
Next time, we will discuss the importance of making Jesus our Lord.
