5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye!
Matthew 7:5
So this verse is probably one of the most out of context verses ever quoted. Most would look at it and tell you that it’s saying to fix your own problems before trying to fix your neighbor’s problems. I’m going to tell you that this is incorrect.
The entire point of this verse is that NONE of us are qualified to remove the speck from our brother’s eye.
19You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; 20for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God.
James 1:19-20
29One who is slow to anger has great understanding; But one who is quick-tempered exalts foolishness.
Proverbs 14:29
I’ve included these two verses as anger is undoubtedly a result of trying to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. God is specifically saying that anger will not do us any good and that it will not reflect His righteousness to the world.
