As we’ve learned, men hold a vital role within the home, but their responsibilities extend far beyond the household. Men are called to be exemplary in all aspects of life, reflecting godliness not only in their families but also in society.

God has given men unique responsibilities both at home and in the world. In this lesson, we will explore the man’s role in both contexts.

Read Titus 2:1-2, 6-8

These verses outline several key responsibilities for men:

  1. Teach Sound Doctrine: To teach sound doctrine, a man must first understand it deeply. This requires being a diligent student of God’s Word, immersing yourself in Scripture, and allowing it to shape your thoughts and actions. Once grounded in truth, you are called to share this knowledge with others, guiding them in the faith.
  2. Be Temperate: Self-control is a crucial trait for men, particularly in managing emotions and reactions. A temperate man exercises restraint, avoiding anger and impulsive behavior. Reflect on how you handle stress and conflict—do you respond in a way that honors God?
  3. Be Dignified: Conduct yourself in a manner that commands respect. Dignity in character means acting with honor and integrity, ensuring that your behavior is worthy of the respect of others. Ask yourself: Do my actions and words reflect the character of Christ?
  4. Be Sensible and Self-Controlled: Just as women are called to sensibility, men too must demonstrate sound judgment and self-control. This involves making wise decisions, controlling impulses, and living in a way that reflects maturity and responsibility.
  5. Be Sound in Faith: Your relationship with God is the foundation of your life. To be sound in faith, continually nurture your relationship with God through prayer, study of His Word, and obedience to His commands. A strong faith will guide your actions and decisions, making you a pillar of strength for those around you.
  6. Be Sound in Love: Love is the hallmark of a godly life. As outlined in 1 Corinthians 13, love is patient, kind, and selfless. We will delve deeper into this in a future lesson, but for now, consider how your love for others reflects Christ’s love for you.
  7. Be Sound in Perseverance: Men are called to be steadfast, demonstrating patience, consistency, and endurance in all aspects of life. Integrity is key—your character should be unwavering, and you must be patient with others, even in challenging situations.
  8. Encourage Younger Men: Young men need guidance and mentoring to grow into godly men. Be a role model and mentor, offering wisdom, support, and encouragement to help them navigate life’s challenges and build their faith.
  9. Set an Example: Your actions speak louder than words. Others, especially younger men, are watching you. A man of integrity and godliness will inspire others to follow his lead. Be mindful of your behavior and strive to set a positive example in every area of life.
  10. Maintain Pure Doctrine: A close, intimate relationship with God, coupled with regular study of His Word, will help you maintain pure and true doctrine. Guard against false teachings and ensure that your beliefs align with Scripture.
  11. Be Sound in Speech: The tongue is a powerful instrument, capable of both blessing and harm. James 3:1-12 emphasizes the importance of controlling your speech. Mastering your tongue is crucial, as it can either build others up or lead you into trouble. Speak with wisdom, kindness, and truth.

As men, we are called to lead by example, both at home and in society. Reflect on these responsibilities and seek God’s guidance in fulfilling your role with integrity and love.
